About Us
Akra Counselling is a Sydney-based counselling practice dedicated to supporting people through change, uncertainty, and the quieter struggles that don’t always have a name. Whether you’re navigating a major life transition, feeling stuck, overthinking everything, or simply unsure of your next step, this is a space where you can talk honestly and start to make sense of things.
— How We Handle the process
Akra Counselling was founded by Alexis Mcfarland, a counsellor holding a Diploma of Counselling, who works within ethical counselling guidelines. Alexis brings a grounded, non-judgemental presence to every session creating space where clients feel genuinely heard, not evaluated.
Alexis does not provide diagnosis or medical treatment, but offers meaningful support in understanding your experiences and, where appropriate, can guide you toward additional professional services that may be of help.

A referral is not always required. This may depend on your insurance provider. Please contact the office to confirm.
In your first session, we’ll talk through what’s been going on for you, what you’d like support with, and what you want to get out of counselling. It’s a chance for you to feel comfortable and for us to decide how we’ll work together.
Yes, sessions are available via phone or secure video, so you can choose what feels most comfortable for you.
Sessions are available in 30, 60, or 90 minutes. A 60-minute session is recommended for the most clients, with 90 minutes available for deeper or more complex work.
You don’t need to have it all worked out before reaching out. Whether you have questions, want to know if counselling is right for you, or are ready to book — we’re here.
