Akra Counselling  ·  Counselling & Life Coaching  ·  Effective: April 17, 2026

Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using the Akra Counselling website or engaging our counselling and life coaching services. By accessing our website or booking a session, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

1. About Akra Counselling

Akra Counselling is a professional practice offering counselling and life coaching services. Our practitioners are committed to providing ethical, client-centred support in accordance with the standards set by relevant professional bodies.

These Terms apply to all clients, website visitors, and individuals who enquire about or engage our services.

2. Services Offered

Akra Counselling provides the following services:

  • Individual counselling sessions (in-person and/or online).
  • Life coaching sessions focused on personal development and goal achievement.
  • Group sessions or workshops (where available).

Our services are intended for adults aged 18 and over unless otherwise stated. We reserve the right to decline or discontinue services where we determine they are not appropriate for a client’s needs, and will provide a referral where possible.

3. Not a Crisis or Emergency Service

Akra Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline immediately.

Our services are not a substitute for emergency psychiatric or medical care. We do not provide diagnoses, prescribe medication, or offer clinical psychiatric treatment.

4. Booking & Scheduling

Sessions must be booked in advance through our website, email, or phone. Bookings are confirmed upon receipt of a confirmation message from us. We reserve the right to decline bookings at our discretion.

  • Session times are agreed upon at the point of booking.
  • Clients are responsible for attending sessions on time. Late arrivals will not extend the session duration.
  • We may reschedule sessions with reasonable notice in the event of practitioner unavailability.

5. Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

We understand that circumstances change. Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • 48 hours or more notice — sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled free of charge.
  • Less than 48 hours notice — 50% of the session fee may be charged.
  • No-show or same-day cancellation — the full session fee may be charged.

Repeated last-minute cancellations may result in the requirement to pay in advance or termination of the therapeutic relationship. Exceptions may be made at our discretion in cases of genuine emergency.

6. Fees & Payment

Our session fees are outlined on our website and are subject to change with reasonable notice. All fees are due in the manner agreed at the time of booking (e.g., prior to or on the day of the session).

  • Accepted payment methods will be confirmed at booking.
  • Invoices or receipts can be provided upon request.
  • We do not currently work directly with insurance providers unless explicitly stated. Clients are responsible for their own insurance reimbursement claims.
  • Outstanding fees must be settled before further sessions can be booked.

7. Online Sessions

Where sessions are conducted online (via video call), the following applies:

  • Clients are responsible for ensuring a private, confidential, and stable environment for online sessions.
  • Clients must have a reliable internet connection and appropriate device. Technical issues on the client’s side do not entitle a refund.
  • Online sessions are subject to the same cancellation policy as in-person sessions.
  • Sessions must not be recorded by the client without prior written consent from the practitioner.

8. Confidentiality

All information shared within the therapeutic relationship is treated with strict confidentiality, in line with our Privacy Policy and the ethical guidelines of our professional bodies. Confidentiality may only be broken in the following circumstances:

  • Where there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or others.
  • Where required by law or court order.
  • Where safeguarding obligations apply.

Your practitioner may discuss sessions anonymously with a clinical supervisor as part of their professional and ethical obligations. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details on how your data is handled.

9. Scope of Service & Limitations

Counselling and life coaching are distinct but complementary services:

  • Counselling focuses on emotional and psychological support, helping you explore and process past and present experiences.
  • Life coaching is forward-focused, supporting goal-setting, motivation, and personal development. It is not a clinical or therapeutic service.

Neither service constitutes medical, psychiatric, or legal advice. If we believe a client requires a higher level of clinical support, we will discuss this and may recommend referral to an appropriate professional or service.

10. Client Responsibilities

By engaging our services, you agree to:

  • Engage honestly and in good faith with your practitioner.
  • Treat your practitioner with respect. Abusive, threatening, or inappropriate behaviour will result in immediate termination of the session and/or the therapeutic relationship.
  • Attend sessions sober and not under the influence of substances (unless prescribed medication). Failure to do so may result in the session being terminated with the full fee charged.
  • Inform us promptly of any changes to your contact details or health circumstances that may be relevant to your care.

11. Ending the Therapeutic Relationship

Either party may end the therapeutic relationship at any time. We ask that wherever possible, clients provide reasonable notice so that an appropriate ending can be planned. Where we end the relationship, we will provide a reason and, where appropriate, refer the client to another service.

We reserve the right to terminate services immediately in cases of abusive behaviour, breach of these Terms, or where continuing would be unethical or unsafe.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Akra Counselling shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from the use of our services or website. Our liability, where applicable, is limited to the fees paid for the specific session(s) in question.

We do not guarantee specific outcomes from counselling or life coaching. Results depend on individual circumstances and the client’s own engagement and effort.

15. Complaints
